Porto Recanati is a small town along the Adriatic coast in the south side of Conero mountain, close to Numana. It is a typical small fishing town which offers the tourist the chance of a relaxing holiday. The pedestrian seafront is the best place for healthy promenades and let kids play freely; cycle paths give you the chance of enchanting riding through nature and nights are delighted by the numerous clubs and discos of the coastal area.
The maritime village
The population of Porto Recanati is still attached to its history of a small maritime community. Most of traditions have survived; during the summer there are a lot of historical festivals organized by the local people. On August you can live directly the annual Aeronautica Militare Airshow. Porto Recanati is home to a large number of family-run restaurants and shops. Porto Recanati’s restaurants offer a large selection of locally caught seafood including Lobster, Sea Bass and Calamari. A local specialty is the Brodetto di Porto Recanati, a traditional fisherman’s dish. The town also boasts a large fish market located on the outskirts of town. The Castello Svevo (Swabian Castle), built during the 13th through 15th centuries as a rampart against Turkish Pirates attacks, is home to the Municipal Art Gallery, that in nine rooms collects paintings, mainly from 1850 to the early 20th century, by Gino Severini, Filippo De Pisis, Ottone Rosai, Vittorio Corcos, Giovanni Fattori, Domenico Morelli, Giovanni Costa and Silvestro Lega. The arena is named after the famous tenor Beniamino Gigli, who was born in Recanati.
