Mussel in the riviera del Conero are called “Moscioli”. These shells live on rocks near the beaches of Conero mountain. You can eat it in all restaurants of this area, it is a traditional food cooked with pasta and tomatoes. Thera a re a lot of dishes made with mussels and there is also a big traditional food meeting in June in Portonovo called “Mosciolando”. Here you can find local traditional foods
The international Slow Food created an association for the safeguard of the Portonovo Mussels, due to the excellent quality, decreasing numbers and to ensure their conservation.
